Basketball
Is there anyone out there besides me who sees a big problem with the NBA? First of all what is with the low scores? Less then 20 points in a quarter, then less then 50 in a half. A lack of basic fundementals on the players part I feel is a large contributing factor to this. Shaq can't make free throws, Carmello can not hit a lay up to save his life, and the fact the players wear mouth pieces. Does this not strike anyone kind of funny. A noncontact sport where players wear mouth pieces.
Then there is the lack of officiating. Come on is anyone watching the playoffs besides me? The officials are terrible. No blood no foul is what it seems to be. If the player is some sort of star he can walk /travel , palm the ball, basically do what he wants in order to make an attempt at a basket.
What happened to the good days of basketball..... the old ABA, where teams scored 140 , 150 points in a game. Where run and gun ended with a layup or a solid slam that wasn't a showboating attempt. I have had this discussion with a friend of mine who hosts a national sports show on satelitte. He tells me the game has evolved and is more in depth. I reply to this ....BULL!!!!!!!!!
The game has not evolved it has degenerated into lot ball where you throw an elbow or drop a shoulder and run like a full back into the key for a poorly lined shot. The players today can not hold a candle to the players of 20 or 30 years ago. I remember seeing Dr. J ( the originator of the dunk) leap from the top of the key, twist ,turn and slam the ball as the Sixers went on to win 135 to 120. Now that was a game. Pistol Pete doing things with the ball on the dribbled that left your mouth open and your mind in shock wondering how he did this . To top it off he made a layup (Hey Carmello check out his film and learn something). The Iceman cometh was the title of the poster I had of Gervin from San Antonio. Alex English who had an even sweeter swish then the Iceman. David "Skywalker" Thompson (the first francise player in NBA history).
Now these were players. A game where four or five starters had double figures and the bench contributed another 50 points. Today if you get more then one player in double figures its an all star on a supposedly winning team.
Now do not get me started on the officials...too late. These jokers allow all sorts of bull to happen on the court . Flagrent fouls that are not called on one end of the court and are presumed happening on the other end when they blow the whistle. If one team is favored by the leauge, and yes the leauge favors some teams over others. Its all about the money they make off sales of jearseys. They make up fouls to allow the favored to catch up or maintain a lead. This stinks to high heaven. I can not recall a more piss poor playoffs ever.
I guess my bottom line is simply this. For the money these guys get paid I want to see them make a layup, hit a free throw once in a while and for the officials to call a fair and decent game. Also for crying out loud show some respect to the fans and maintain their posture on the court when something goes wrong quit acting like a John Stockton or Carl Malone and arguing with the official, and for the officials to get some cajones and take charge of the game!
