Abuse the first Admendment ... its cool
Since when has it become okay in the name of the first admendment to abuse it. Sure yoiu have the right to speak out for or against something. The freedom to express your opinion be it right or wrong it is an opinion. However when has it become okay to be disrespectful, arrogant , and abuse something all in the name of free speach.
With the way things are going I should be able to stand and yell fire in a movie theatre without consequence. All in the name of free speech.
On April 24, the HOA in WHEAT RIDGE Colorado at Cambridge Park. The homeowners association announced Friday it will not penalize resident Beth Hammer for flying an American flag upside down. The HOA sent the couple a letter, saying they had violated the association's rules and regulations. It asked that the couple comply within seven days or risk a fine.
Well no fine, no change of disrespect. As a matter of fact the HOA caved on the issue claiming it would be a coastly fight and would not benifiet anyone. Although Beth Hammers husband sits on the home owner association. Was the secretsary treasure may or may not have played into this (yeah right). The American Flag still flies upside down outside the HAmmers home.
What does the flying of the American flag upside down mean? It is an old signal that shows distress, inneed of help or aid. It has never nor should it stand for any political opinion for or against a topic. In this case the Iraqi war.
In American history when a flag was flown upside down it meant that there was trouble, a unit needs help IMMEDIATELY! I can not find with an ask.com, or a google search of an historical event where the flag was flown upside down to express an opinion.
I fiond the HOA contemptable and disgusting in thier lack of action. The Hammers, well they have the right to speak out against the war, the administration, and express thier beliefs. However the disrespect and lack of knowledge on the subject of flag care and display makes me sick. It is this lack of respect and courtesy to the symbol of freedom that is world wide recogniseable as a sign of hope.
My statment to the Hammers is this: You enjoy the rights granted under the Constitution, then twist them to suit your political opinion. It is people like you that many brave man has died for and your lack of repsect to the symbol they loved is disgustiing. I am thankful you do not live in my nieghborhood.
