Denver Broncos

A little change of pace here. A quick diversion from the same old insane topic of politics.

A look at the Denver Broncos and the fickle fans here in Denver.

Reading a op ed piece writen by the Bronco, more specific Mike Shanahan hateing Dave Krieger. Krieger implies that part of the moves being made here in the off season have something to do with the fact that the coach, Mike Shanahan has sold his home in favor of a new one. Ok so the new home is huge in comparison to his old one. The fact he sold his old home before the market went topsy turvy, and pocketed 16 million. This in no way has anything to do with his decisions for the team.

To imply that with the layoffs of 7 employees from the buisness side of the francise is part of a deal along with a house to be used as a ploy in negotiating owner vs player wages in an up coming labor arbitration is a stretch.

This smacks of conspirocy theories, and to be frank stupidity. Linking certain moves by free agents and the addition or subtraction of players to a behind the scenes moves by Pat Bowlin to cover up some sort of finacial problems. COM"ON!

What it is, is very simple. Or at least this is more plausable.

1) The Shanahan family is settleing into a retirement mode more then likely here in the Denver area. With a sound planning and hard work. Mike has provided for his family over the last 12 years and now they want to better themselves by building a bigger and nicer home.

2) Jason Elam, the highest scorer in Bronco history looks to cash in before he retires. Jason after having a huge run of success here in Denver and setting NFL records. Noteablely the longest field goal in history by a good yard,(look a the video of the placement of the ball, the hieght it passes through the uprights, and then the one kick by Dempsey of New Orleans who shares the record. Jason's was much further). Being a free agent, Jason looks to make some retirement cash while he is still on the top of his game. No great mystery here. Hence the move to Atlanta.

3)Jim Bates, defensive coach/coordinator? Laughable at best. Only on the job for one year he really did nothing with a defense that had major potential. Takeing one of the best defenses and turning them into one of the worst against the run and pass. Good bye and good luck Jim.

4)The offensive coordinator leaves for Tennesse. More money, an advancement perhaps and more envolvment of the running of an offense. An arguable point. Never the less he is gone. Not surpriseing after this last season.

5) Javon Walker ... gone. Big deal. He really was not that impressive last season as he spent most of it injured and is at the end of his career.

6) The addition of Champ Bailey's younger brother. A little nepitism? Maybe but should be a strong addition to the defense. Something the Broncs need.

Now to all the fans out there who want Shanahans head on a pike. I don't see any NFL owner knocking on your doors asking for advice, or offering you all a head coaching job.

To those who claim the only reason Denver won the super bowl was because of Terrel Davis. Some football efficenados you are. The fact that straight up running, combined with simple and proving blocking scemes. Ones like simple tackle traps, combined with a precision arm of Elways made for an excitng and noteable offense. One that is not given credit. Statistically speaking the second best if not the best offensive season on record!

But hey lets not ever look at the stats from that year and only rely on what the television bias tells us of Montana, Farve, and Manning. All of which are subpar in talent compared to Elway. FACT PEOPLE!!!

John Elway did more with less then the others ever dreamed of.

So in conclusion what do we think. Interesting moves in the off season. A new look for the Broncs in the 2008 season, with a different coching staff, players and hopefully attitude. More heart perhaps. Something they lacked this last year. Evidance from the Chicago game. No heart equates to a loss.

I look foward to the up coming season as I do every year.

GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!
