Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at 1:30 pm
============================
Colorado Sen. Dave Schultheis (R - Colorado Springs) has introduced his
first bill, SB07-029, concerning illegal aliens. This bill will go before
the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee on the
afternoon of Wednesday, January 31, 2007, for a public hearing.
Public Testimony is needed in support of this legislation.
The hearing is Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at 1:30 pm in the Senate State
Affairs committee room #353, State Capitol
WE NEED YOU THERE!
SB07-029 requires all nongovernmental employers within the state to apply
to participate in the extended Federal Basic Employment Verification Pilot
Program and to participate if accepted. It imposes a fine against any
employer that does not apply to participate in the program. Requires the
Department of Labor and Employment to put a mechanism in place to inform
employers of the requirement to apply for participation and how to comply
and to post this information on the department's website.
Upon receipt of a valid complaint of a violation of these provisions, it
requires the Director of the Division of Labor to investigate the
complaint.

PUBLIC TESTIMONY IS NEEDED IN SUPPORT OF THIS LEGISLATION TO HIGHLIGHT
THREE MAIN AREAS:
1. Legal workers who have lost their job as a result of illegal aliens
working in their respective job or job industry.
2. Business owners who are striving to abide by the law in hiring only
legal workers to fill their job openings and thus finding it difficult to
produce competitive bids.
3. Business owners who are voluntarily using the Federal Basic Employment
Verification Program and can acknowledge its ease of use. And of course,
on the overall need to crack down on criminal employers who hire illegal
aliens.
In addition, general testimony will be taken.
If you can assist in testifying in favor of this proposed legislation or
have any relating questions, please contact Tim Inwood in Sen. Schultheis'
