Palin scares Steinem
Gloria Steinem is running scared of Gov. Sarah Palin. Why you ask ...... LMFAO. It is simple. Gov. Palin represents everything Gloria wishes she could be.

Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Clinton. Her down-home, divisive and deceptive speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican convention that has more than twice as many male delegates as female, a presidential candidate who is owned and operated by the right wing and a platform that opposes pretty much everything Clinton's candidacy stood for -- and that Barack Obama's still does.
This is not to beat up on Palin. I defend her right to be wrong, even on issues that matter most to me. I regret that people say she can't do the job because she has children in need of care, especially if they wouldn't say the same about a father. I get no pleasure from imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues about which she has zero background, with one month to learn to compete with Sen. Joe Biden's 37 years' experience.
(now explain to me when Gloria has ever stood up to defend a conservative, ever. Talk about being wrong. Joe Biden may have 37 years of foreign policy, but it is 37 years of picking and supporting the wrong side of policy time and time again.)
Palin's value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women's wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves "abstinence-only" programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers' millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn't spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling.
I don't doubt her sincerity. As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assn., she doesn't just support killing animals from helicopters, she does it herself. She doesn't just talk about increasing the use of fossil fuels but puts a coal-burning power plant in her own small town. She doesn't just echo McCain's pledge to criminalize abortion by overturning Roe vs. Wade, she says that if one of her daughters were impregnated by rape or incest, she should bear the child. She not only opposes reproductive freedom as a human right but implies that it dictates abortion, without saying that it also protects the right to have a child.
(You can taste the fear on the protective venom that is dripping from Steinem's words here. Steinem's stance against hunting, gun rights, pro abortion, are clearly evident. The fact that Gov. Sarah Palin proves what Steinem's movement was all about, women being able to have and do it all. A success story right out of Americas heart and soul. Gloria is running scared because it happens to be a conservative who is getting the recognition for this and not a liberal. The FACT Gov. Palin is an ALL AMERICAN WOMAN, beauty queen, hunter, outdoors man, mother, PTA involved, has a mind of her own and uses it, this just scares the hell out of Steinam.)

A quote from Steinem that you conveniently left out: "Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie."
Feminism is about forwarding policies, whether they are put forth by women or men in any political party, that make the world a more equal place for both genders. Sarah Palin opposes the Fair Pay Act, comprehensive sex education, and her buddy John McCain opposes the Violence Against Women Act. Neither of these people is what I would call a feminist, in the true sense of the word.
AND, if you're going to be derogatory about a 74 year old national icon - AT LEAST SPELL HER NAME RIGHT!

Audrey, I spelled her name as it appeared in her column. If she can not spell her name to your satisfation too bad.
The fact still remains that Gov. Palin is making history and policies for the advancement of women. Without caveing in to a frindge element that includes global warming myth believers. Those who put animals above humans, and does not believe in the murder of children does scare Steinem. By youre answer it seems she may scare you as well. Is it because a conservative woman is having her cake and eating it too?
I did not speak derogatory of Gloria, that would be very easy to do. What I did weas point out how she nis a hypocrite on her own movement. But I see you are blinded in your own progressive thinking to see this.
How sad it is that liberal progressive thinkers are so limited in being able to see a bigger picture then the one they try to impose upon every one else.

You can play word games all day long and point out the honestly misplaced letter of the alphabet all day long but there is nothing honest or a mistake when you intentionally defend your point or the likes of people like Gloria.
