FBI's Mueller: Hezbollah Busted in Mexican Smuggling Operation

FBI Director Robert Mueller said this week that his agency busted a smuggling ring organized by the terrorist group Hezbollah that had operatives cross the Mexican border to carry out possible terrorist attacks inside the U.S.

"This was an occasion in which Hezbollah operatives were assisting others with some association with Hezbollah in coming to the United States,” Mueller told a House Appropriations subcommittee during a Tuesday hearing on the FBI's budget.

In a stunning revelation, Mueller admitted that Hezbollah had succeeded in smuggling some of its operatives across the border, telling the House committee: "That was an organization that we dismantled and identified those persons who had been smuggled in. And they have been addressed as well.”

Hezbollah was responsible for the single most deadly terrorist attack against the U.S. before 9/11 - the Oct. 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, which killed 243 U.S. troops.

In November, an al-Qaida operative who was on the FBI's terrorist watch list was captured near the Mexican border, housed in a Texas jail and turned over to federal agents, according to Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas.

"A confirmed al-Qaida terrorist, an Iraqi national, was held in the Brewster County jail," Rep. Culberson told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity. "He was captured in Mexico. This was within the last six weeks. He was turned over to the FBI."

Louis Farrakhan Calls for U.S. 'Regime Change'

Speaking at a press conference in Cuba this week, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said that the U.S. government needs "regime change" and called on the Muslim world to rally in defense of Iran.

"We need a new government, we need regime change in America," he told reporters in Havana, in quotes picked up by Reuters.

In the next breath the radical minister urged that "the Muslim world should unite against America's desire for a pre-emptive strike against Iran and Syria."

He defended Iran's right to develop a nuclear energy program to reduce global dependence on oil, insisting that Washington's opposition was just a pretext for a war.

A similar pretext was used, Farrakhan said, to "rape the treasuries of the United States" for the Iraq invasion, where "hundreds of billions of dollars [were] doled out to the friends of President Bush, Halliburton and Bechtel and Associates."
Last month Farrakhan blamed Israel for the U.S. invasion of Iraq, telling a Chicago audience:

"These neo-cons and Zionists have manipulated Bush and the American government and our boys and girls are dying in Iraq and in Afghanistan for the cause of Israel, not for the cause of America!"

"Israel is the tail waggin' the dog, which is America," the Muslim leader insisted.

Use the "it is a part of their culture " excuse in order to justify degenerate behavior. Giving punks and thugs like MS - 13 a free run of things.

The reason there has been and should be a waiting period for visas is for background checks. This goes beyond the homeland , terrorist thinking. It just makes sense.

Useing the influx of the Cuban migration we saw in the 80's when Fidel Castro simply opened his prisons and sanitariums up. We found ourselves in a flood of social misfits. America used to have the best school system for public education anywhere. Now we are suffering from ideologs and activism that is tearing the core out of education. Law Professor Bans Laptops in Class

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A University of Memphis law professor has banned laptop computers from her classroom and her students are passing a petition against it.

Professor June Entman says her main concern is that students are so busy keyboarding they can't think and analyze what she's telling them.

Students have begun collecting signatures on petitions and tried unsuccessfully to file a complaint with the American Bar Association.

Student Cory Winsett says if he must continue without his laptop, he'll transfer to another school. Winsett says he won't be able to keep up if he has to rely on hand-written notes, which he says are incomplete and less organized.

To solve America's immigration problems, solve Mexico's domestic problems

"SHAMEFUL" is the word that Mexican President Vicente Fox has used, seemingly without irony, to describe American proposals to build a fence along the two nations' massive border. One might argue that the term is a better description of the corrupt, opportunity-stifling government Fox oversees, or that "ineffective" would be a better characterization of the border-wall idea.
After all, it's Fox's country and its policies that compel millions of Mexicans to risk their lives fleeing north a force that no American barrier could ever thwart.

True solutions to the immigration problem are neither within our borders nor under our exclusive control. It is time to refocus the debate where it belongs on making the leadership of Mexico accountable for Mexico's under-performing economy.

If Mexico were able to attain the growth rate of China, not only could you stop the immigration north, you could even reverse it, as happened briefly shortly after the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1994. Economic stagnation in Mexico creates the momentum that drives the population to look for better opportunities elsewhere.

Mexico should start by reforming its punishing tax system, which depresses growth and disproportionately hurts the poor. Mexico's top tax rate of 33 percent kicks in at about $20,000 per year. The top U.S. rate is a little higher, but does not kick in until inc`ome reaches over $300,000 per year.

`Put differently, the highest income-tax rate hits at the middle-class level in Mexico, but only at the upper-class level in the United States. Moreover, Mexican workers earning just $4,000 pay 10 percent of their income in federal taxes; those earning a little over $7,000 pay 25 percent. These relatively high rates, at low-income levels, prevent the emergence of a middle class.

Mexican businesses face a dizzying array of regulations that have a crippling effect on job creation. It costs a firm an average of almost 20 months of wages to fire a worker, placing Mexico in the bottom 20 percent of the world, according to the World Bank, in terms of labor flexibility.

Under this type of regime, the risk associated with starting a business is often prohibitive. Even worse, Mexico ranks in the bottom 30 percent of the world in terms of contract enforcement a fundamental building block of any economy. Mexico is the one country (besides the United States) where citizens once owned the subsurface rights to minerals. The state, however, took those rights away during the 1917 revolution. Mexico's state-owned oil company, PEMEX, drills only a handful of wells every year 350 on average, compared to a U.S. average of about 24,000 a year. If the government re-established the mineral rights of the people, energy entrepreneurs from around the world would flock to Mexico, making deals with farmers and ranchers as they have been doing for 150 years in this country. Mexico might soon have reserves rivaling some Persian Gulf countries.

Despite the advent of fair elections in Mexico in 2000, Mexico is not yet a fully functional democracy. A still cozy alliance between the business elite and the political class conspire to prevent the unwinding of destructive policies, which prevent the emergence of a bona-fide middle class, a prerequisite for true democracy. While Fox can characterize the building of a wall as a "shameful" initiative in democracy, he should be ashamed of not capitalizing further on the great opening in the Mexican political system in 2000.

The Mexican elections this July had offered a unique window to let Mexicans living here transform Mexico for the good. For the first time in history, the 10 percent of the Mexican population living abroad would have had the opportunity to vote in the Mexican election. If a significant number of them did, they could easily decide the outcome of what most characterize as a close three-way race for president.

Unfortunately, the Mexican government cut off registration to the July elections at Jan. 15, almost seven months before the vote. The result is that the Mexican vote abroad will be inconsequential. If the Mexican government really intended to provide a voice for its sizeable contingent living abroad, it should extend the deadline until at least June.

The Mexican government has launched an extensive P.R. campaign to expose the plight of its people living here. Fair enough. Instead of a fractious debate about fences, time and resources should be spent now on convincing Mexico to extend its registration deadline and educating Mexicans here about what is really preventing Mexico from growing like China. With $15 billion in remittances to their home country, they have a real stake in the outcome.

Tejano fighters at the Alamo:

Juan Abamillo was a native Tejano who had volunteered to serve in the Texas Revolution under the command of Juan N. Seguín. He had arrived at the Alamo on February 23, 1836 and he died there on March 6, 1836 as he fought alongside Travis, Crocket and the others.


Juan Antonio Badillo was born in Texas and also served under Captain Juan N. Seguín. Badillo accompanied Seguín to the Alamo in February. But when Seguín was called out to rally reinforcements, Badillo stayed at the Alamo. Like his fellow revolutionary, Juan Abamillo, Juan Antonio Badillo died on March 6, defending the Alamo against Mexican Federal troops.


Carlos Espalier (1819-1836) was born in Texas and was said to be a protégé of Jim Bowie. When he died at the Alamo, he was only seventeen years old.


José María Esparza (1802-1836), also known as Gregorio Esparza, was born in San Antonio de Béxar, as the child of Juan Antonio and Maria Petra (Olivas) Esparza. He married Anna Salazar, by whom he had several children. Esparza had enlisted with Captain Seguín in October 1835. When Gen. Santa Anna and his forces arrived in February 1836, Esparza and his family were advised to take refuge in the Alamo. Although Esparza could have left if he had desired to do so, he decided to stay, and his family remained with him. He tended a cannon during the siege and died when the Alamo fell on March 6, 1836. His brother, Francisco Esparza, recovered his body and arranged for a Christian ceremony and burial. Most of the defenders were not given the same respect.

Antonio Fuentes (1813-1836) was born in San Antonio de Béxar, Texas. He was recruited by Juan N. Seguín and took part in the siege of Bexar. Fuentes had a falling out with the Seguín and Travis, but when the Mexican troops arrived in San Antonio, he stayed and fell with the other defenders.


Damacio Jiménez, a native of Texas, also joined Seguín’s militia. Damacio had served with Colonel Travis at Anahuac and entered the Alamo in late 1835. He died with the other defenders.


José Toribio Losoya (1808-1836) was one of Capt. Juan N. Seguín’s company of Tejanos. He had been born in the Alamo barrio on April 11, 1808, to Ventura Losoya and Concepción de Los Angeles Charlé. He deserted the Mexican army to enlist as a rifleman in Seguín’s company. In February 1836, Losoya rode to the Alamo with Seguín and was there when the fortress fall. His wife and three children sought refuge in the mission chapel and survived the siege.


Andrés Nava (1810-1836) was a native of Texas who had enlisted for six months service under the command of Juan N. Seguín. He took part in the siege of Bexar and later died while defending the Alamo on March 6, 1836.


It is ironic that so few native Texas died in Alamo. One man who played a very significant role in the fight for independence was Juan Nepomuceno Seguín (1806-1890). A native of San Antonio, Seguín is probably the most famous Tejano to be involved in the War of Texas Independence. His story is complex because he joined the Anglo rebels and helped defeat the Mexican forces of Santa Anna. But later on, as Mayor of San Antonio, he and other Tejanos felt the hostile encroachments of the growing Anglo power against them. After receiving a series of death threats, Seguín relocated his family in Mexico, where he was coerced into military service and fought against the US in 1846-1848 Mexican War.


One of the most famous Tejano patriots was José Antonio Navarro (1795-1871), who was one of the three Tejano Mexicano signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence (the other two were José Francisco Ruiz and Lorenzo de Zavala). Navarro was elected to serve twice in the Texas Senate, and Navarro County was named in his honor.


It is important for the reader to understand that the several Tejano Mexicanos who died at the Alamo in the battle against Santa Anna were only a small representation of the many Hispanics who fought for freedom.

Its about time we went back into space. If not for the pure exploration of our own solar system but for the tech advancement that enhances our lives.

I want to travel across the boarder with no check points and not have to show any identification. I want free medical. I want to be able to cast a vote in elections even though I am not a citizen of that country. I want to be able to get a job abd drivers license, lower subsidesed federal loans for houseing. I want to recreate what I have left in another country and not assimilate into the culture of my new home.

I want to organise and demonstrate on the steps of the capitols in Mexico, Venzuala, Honduras, and other latin countries.

I want to be able to travel there and have my children taught in school in their native tounge English.

I want the oppertunity to commite crimes and then run from prosecution back north across the boarder without fear of being prosecuted!!!!! I don't want to be held responsible for my actions with the excuse of it is racism if they try to arrest me.

Then there is the foriegn aid we taxpayers give them annually.

Now back to the origional question .... If they want to be Americans soooooo bad, then why aren't they waving and flying the American flag. Why arn't they learenig to speak ENGLISH? If they want to be American, then why in the HELL are they so busy creating little ghettos to live in?

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - French President Jacques Chirac added linguistic patriotism to economic nationalism on Thursday when he briefly walked out of a European Union summit after a French business leader spoke in English.

Facing violent street protests at home over a disputed youth employment law, Chirac stormed out of the room when the head of the EU business lobby, Ernest-Antoine Seilliere, switched from French to what he called "the language of business".

The incident, confirmed by French officials, came on top of a row over alleged protectionism by Paris, which dominated leaders' comments at the start of the two-day meeting.

Clinton vows to block bill criminalizing illegal immigrants

NEW YORK -- Invoking Biblical themes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton joined immigration advocates Wednesday to vow and block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants.

Clinton, a potential 2008 presidential candidate and relative latecomer to the immigration debate, made her remarks as the Senate prepares to take up the matter next week.

Clinton renewed her pledge to oppose a bill passed in December by the House that would make unlawful presence in the United States _ currently a civil offense _ a felony. The Senate is set to consider a version of that legislation, as well as several other bills seeking to address the seemingly intractable issue of immigration reform.

Surrounded by a multicultural coalition of New York immigration advocates, Clinton blasted the House bill as "mean-spirited" and said it flew in the face of Republicans' stated support for faith and values.

"It is certainly not in keeping with my understanding of the Scriptures," Clinton said, "because this bill would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself."

She also called for new enforcement laws, including penalties for employers who exploit illegal immigrants, as well as a system to allow the roughly 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States to earn their citizenship.

The soft sentance comes in one county where the prosecution went ahead and accepted her guilty plea and failed to sentance her approprietly. In the second county where some of her sexual exploits took place refused to prosecute because the victem did not want to testify. Yes the victem did not want to testifuy in court. So this caused the prosecution to drop the chages. Now wait a minute. She confessed and signed a document to her guilt. Why no trial? The second judge refused her admission of guilt and plea bargin. He was recorded as saying that she deserves ten years in jail for her crime. (good for the judge and BOO to the prosecution!).

Where is the double standard you are asking. Simple think about if the roles were reversed. A male teacher having sex with a student who is only 14. COme on now we all know that thie male would not see the light of day for at least 10 years if not longer.

Belzers following quote shows his lack of grasp on the topic I feel.

HMMMMMMM sounds to me like asking a person who is there, first hand knowledege and under the threat of death would be a great source of information on the topic. Via AP, Times Admits Incorrectly ID'ing Hooded Man

The New York Times acknowledged in Saturday's editions that it incorrectly identified an Iraqi man in a front-page story as the hooded figure shown in a photograph from Abu Ghraib prison that became an icon of abuse by American captors.
An editor's note accompanying a front-page story on Ali Shalal Qaissi said the paper ''did not adequately research Mr. Qaissi's insistence that he was the man in the photograph.''

After the original story appeared March 11, the online magazine Salon.com challenged the man's identity, based on an examination of 280 Abu Ghraib pictures it had been studying for weeks and an interview with an official from the Army's Criminal Investigation Command. The Times said it was investigating the matter.

The Times said Qaissi and his lawyers maintain that he was photographed in a similar position and shocked with wires, but that Qaissi acknowledged he is not the man in the specific photograph.

Here's the "Editor's Note:"

A front-page article last Saturday profiled Ali Shalal Qaissi, identifying him as the hooded man forced to stand on a box, attached to wires, in a photograph from the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal of 2003 and 2004. He was shown holding such a photograph. As an article on Page A1 today makes clear, Mr. Qaissi was not that man.
The Times did not adequately research Mr. Qaissi's insistence that he was the man in the photograph. Mr. Qaissi's account had already been broadcast and printed by other outlets, including PBS and Vanity Fair, without challenge. Lawyers for former prisoners at Abu Ghraib vouched for him. Human rights workers seemed to support his account. The Pentagon, asked for verification, declined to confirm or deny it.

Despite the previous reports, The Times should have been more persistent in seeking comment from the military. A more thorough examination of previous articles in The Times and other newspapers would have shown that in 2004 military investigators named another man as the one on the box, raising suspicions about Mr. Qaissi's claim.

The Times also overstated the conviction with which representatives of Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International expressed their view of whether Mr. Qaissi was the man in the photograph. While they said he could well be that man, they did not say they believed he was.

Smoking Ban Starts Today
CALABASAS - Life will be a drag for smokers in the city of Calabasas starting today, when a strict ban on lighting up in most outdoor spaces takes effect.

The ban, perhaps the most comprehensive smoking ban in the United States, prohibits smoking in all public places at times when other people can be exposed to secondhand smoke. Businesses can apply to create a designated smoking area far away from non-smokers starting in April.

The "Comprehensive Secondhand Smoke Control Ordinance" includes indoor and outdoor businesses, hotels, parks, sidewalks, restaurants and bars where people can be reasonably expected to congregate or meet, according to an announcement from the city of Calabasas.

People will still be allowed to smoke in their homes.

"The only exception is if your apartment, back yard or balcony is directly adjacent to a common area, such as a laundry room or pool," the city announced in a list of frequently asked questions on its Web site.

Applications for designated smoking areas will be available on the Web site some time in the beginning of April, they said.

Smokers who can't or won't kick the habit can still light up in public as long as they are "at least 20 feet away from any path of travel, doorway or place where people congregate."

If someone complains, the smoker will have to extinguish the cigarette or move, according to the ordinance.

People violating the ban will be ticketed and possibly fined. The city said it expects to rely on warnings and citations but will consider more serious penalties for willful or repeat offenders.

The suspect in this month's attack on the UNC-CH campus has written a letter to ABC11 Eyewitness News. Eyewitness News received the letter Monday, in response to our request for an interview. It was sent from Central Prison in Raleigh and dated Friday, March 10. Addressed to ABC11 Eyewitness News anchor Amber Rupinta, the two-page letter includes Taheri-azar's explanation of what he was trying to accomplish in the attack.
"Allah gives permission in the Koran for the followers of Allah to attack those who have raged war against them, with the expectation of eternal paradise in case of martyrdom and/or living one's life in obedience of all of Allah's commandments found throughout the Koran's 114 chapters..."

"The U.S. government is responsible for the deaths of and the torture of countless followers of Allah, my brothers and sisters. My attack on Americans at UNC-CH on March 3rd was in retaliation for similar attacks orchestrated by the U.S. government on my fellow followers of Allah in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and other Islamic territories. I did not act out of hatred for Americans, but out of love for Allah instead."

Authorities called it one of the worst rape cases they could recall.


Seven gang members and three female associates were charged Monday with raping a woman as the mother of one suspect allegedly watched and encouraged the assault, authorities said.


The 23-year-old victim was targeted because her boyfriend had angered members of the Anaheim gang, authorities said.


She was lured into a hotel room by a female gang associate at a Feb. 23 party then sexually assaulted over a seven-hour period, Anaheim police Chief John Welter said.


He called it "one of the worst rapes I've seen in my 35 years experience."


Authorities identified the 38-year-old "gang mother" as Connie Herrera Retana and her son as 18-year-old Martin Carlos Delgado. Police said the victim was lured into the room and beaten by 23-year-old Jolean Disbrow.


"It makes you shake your head that mothers could be participating," said Orange County Assistant District Attorney Susan Kang Schroeder. "It shows how a group mentality can breed disgusting behavior."


Four suspects were arrested in Garden Grove driving the victim's car.


The gang members told the victim the assault was to teach her boyfriend a lesson and that she would be killed if she reported the crime, Schroeder said. Authorities declined to say what the victim's boyfriend had done.


Along with Retana, Delgado and Disbrow, those arrested were identified as Jesse Bess, 23; Randy Calderon, 18; Keizzy Fierro, 22; Adrian Flores, 18; Raymond Jaramillo, 19; Luis Nava, 19; and Gilbert Ortiz, 15. One suspect, identified as 19-year-old Oscar Jose "Sporty" Barajas, remained at large.


Each defendant was charged with four counts of forcible rape in concert. Each also faced one count of false imprisonment by violence, forcible oral copulation and forcible sexual penetration by a foreign object by force, prosecutors said.


All but Fierro were charged with dissuading a witness from reporting a crime and criminal street gang activity. Fierro and two others were charged with receiving stolen property — the victim's car. Delgado was charged with one count of unlawful taking of a vehicle.


They were each being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, with arraignment expected Friday.


The maximum penalties the defendants face if convicted range from 52 years to life to 184 years to life.


It wasn't immediately known whether any of the defendants have retained attorneys. A message could not be left at the county public defender's office late Monday.

Iran builds a secret underground complex as nuclear tensions rise

Iran's leaders have built a secret underground emergency command centre in Teheran as they prepare for a confrontation with the West over their illicit nuclear programme, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

The complex of rooms and offices beneath the Abbas Abad district in the north of the capital is designed to serve as a bolthole and headquarters for the country's rulers as military tensions mount.


Iran uses small attack boats to simulate assaults on US warships
The recently completed command centre is connected by tunnels to other government compounds near the Mossala prayer ground, one of the city's most important religious sites.

Offices of the state security forces, the energy department and the Organisation of Islamic Culture and Communications are all located in the same area.

The construction of the complex is part of the regime's plan to move more of its operations beneath ground. The Revolutionary Guard has overseen the development of subterranean chambers and tunnels - some more than half a mile long and an estimated 35ft high and wide - at sites across the country for research and development work on nuclear and rocket programmes.

The opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) learnt about the complex from its contacts within the regime. The same network revealed in 2002 that Iran had been operating a secret nuclear programme for 18 years.

The underground strategy is partly designed to hide activities from satellite view and international inspections but also reflects a growing belief in Teheran that its showdown with the international community could end in air strikes by America or Israel. "Iran's leaders are clearly preparing for a confrontation by going underground," said Alireza Jafarzadeh, the NCRI official who made the 2002 announcement.

America and Europe believe that Iran is secretly trying to acquire an atomic bomb, although the regime insists that its nuclear programme is for civilian energy purposes.

As the United Nations Security Council prepares to discuss Iran's nuclear operations this week, Teheran has been stepping up plans for confrontation. Its chief delegate on nuclear talks last week threatened that Iran would inflict "harm and pain" on America if censured by the Security Council.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the hardline president who has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map", also said that the West would "suffer" if it tried to thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions. As the war of words intensified, President George W Bush said that Teheran represents a "grave national security concern" for America.

In Iraq, which Mr Ahmadinejad hopes will develop into a fellow Shia Islamic state, Iran is already using its proxy militia to attack British and American forces, often with Iranian-made bombs and weapons. As tensions grow, Teheran could order Hizbollah - the Lebanese-based terror faction that it created and arms - to attack targets in Israel.

The regime is also reviewing its contingency plans to attack tankers and American naval forces in the Persian Gulf and to mine the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 15 million barrels of oil (about 20 per cent of world production) passes each day. Any action in the Gulf would send oil prices soaring - a weapon that Iran has often threatened to wield.

The naval wing of the Revolutionary Guard has in recent years practised "swarming" raids, using its flotilla of small rapid-attack boats to simulate assaults on commercial vessels and United States warships, according to Ken Timmerman, an American expert on Iran.

US intelligence believes that if Iranian nuclear facilities were attacked by either America or Israel, then Teheran would respond by trying to close the Strait of Hormuz with naval forces, mines and anti-ship cruise missiles.

"When these systems become fully operational, they will significantly enhance Iran's defensive capabilities and ability to deny access to the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz," Michael Maples, the director of the Defence Intelligence Agency testified before the Senate armed services committee last month.

Its most devastating options would be to use its long-range Shahab-3 missiles to attack Israeli or American bases in the region or to deploy suicide bombers in Western cities under its strategy of "asymmetric" response.

"The price to the West for standing up to Iran is clear," Gen Moshe Ya'alon, the former Israeli defence chief said last month in Washington. "It includes terror attacks, economic hardship… and consequences resulting from fluctuations in Iranian oil production. Indeed, the regime believes that the West - including Israel - is afraid to deal with it."

Hecklers harass families of US soldiers killed in Iraq

Five women sang and danced as they held up signs saying "thank God for dead soldiers" at the funeral of an army sergeant who was killed by an Iraqi bomb.

For them, it was the perfect way to spread God's word: America was being punished for tolerating homosexuality.

The fringe group of fire and brimstone Baptists from Kansas has been courting controversy for more than 15 years, traveling the country with their hateful signs and slogans.

The Westboro Baptist Church first gained national notoriety when they picked the funeral of Matthew Shepard, a Wyoming student who was murdered in 1998 for being gay.

They have since picketed the funerals of Frank Sinatra and Bill Clinton's mother, celebrated the terrorist attacks of September 11 as an act of God's wrath, and have even targeted Santa Claus and the Ku Klux Klan.

But it was the callousness and cruelty of harassing the grieving families of soldiers at dozens of funerals across the country that has sparked a grassroots movement of bikers determined to drown out the jeers and taunts.

In Flushing, Michigan they turned their leather-clad backs to the five women and held flags and tarps up so that mourners walking past wouldn't see the signs saying "God hates fags," "fag vets" and "America is doomed."

Many found it hard to hide their anger when Margie Phelps, the daughter of Westboro's founder, called out "All this for little old us? Oh, you shouldn't have. I feel so special," before she started singing "the Pope, the Pope, the Pope is on fire. He don't get no water let the heretics burn" in front of a Catholic church.

The glee with which the women hurled insults made John Franklin, 64, sick to his stomach.

"This guy's family deserves a peaceful funeral. It's not right what they're doing," said Franklin, who fought in the Vietnam War. "The only reason they're able to walk around like that is because the veterans fought for their freedom."

While Westboro's congregation remains stable at around 100 people - most of whom are the extended family of founder Fred Phelps - the ranks of the Patriot Guard Riders has swelled to more than 16,000 in just a few months.

The protests come at a time when many Americans think the war in Iraq was a mistake but are anxious to show their support for the troops.

Four states have enacted legislation barring protests at funerals and a dozen more are in the process of introducing bans. But it is unlikely that the bans will stand up to legal challenge.

The group is careful to protest in public spaces and is well aware of its constitutional rights - 11 of Phelps' 13 children are lawyers.

"Al-Qaeda Undercover Soldier, U.S.A." warns that America will be brought to its knees

On March 10, 2006, the Global Islamic Media Front (GIMF) posted, on the Islamic websites, a final warning to the American people, on behalf of "Rakan Ben Williams" who defines himself as "Al-Qaeda under cover soldier, USA [sic]."

It is not clear exactly who is behind this name. Moreover, according to a previous statement by GIMF public relations bureau director Saif Al-Din Al-Kinani on the GIMF Internet newscast Sout Al-Khilafa, GIMF is not affiliated with Al-Qaeda. [1]

But on November 8, 2005, the London daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported: "The Global Islamic Media Front has threatened [the West] on the Internet by means of its new soldier, whom it calls Rakan Ben Williams, and whom it claims is a white Englishman who converted to Islam." [2]

Also, on November 24, 2005, the GIMF posted on the Islamic websites a similar warning, under the same name, that included an explicit threat to assassinate Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and U.S. President George W. Bush, when the time comes, with a clear mention of the possibility of doing so after they complete their current terms of office. Although this communiqué was directed to these leaders, it noted that it referred to all Western leaders, and included special mention of Berlusconi. At its conclusion, the communiqué said that it had been written by "the one who thirsts for the blood of the Crusaders, the secret soldier of Al-Qaeda, Rakan Ben Williams, Italy (the Vatican)." [3]

In the following warning, Rakan Ben Williams warns that, unlike after the 9/11, Madrid, and London attacks, which are still being investigated, "[after] the coming attack there will be no one to analyze and investigate, because the mind and the heart will be unable to comprehend it… This will not be a single operation", the report added, "but two; one bigger than the other, but we will begin with the big one and postpone the bigger one, in order to see [how] diligent the American people is [in preserving] its life. If it chooses life, [it must] carry out the demands of the Muslims, and if it chooses death, then we are its best perpetrators." The warning appeared in Arabic and in English.

SPORTS STADIUM TERROR ALERT

The FBI said Friday there is no specific, credible threat of a terror attack aimed at college basketball arenas or other sports stadiums, but acknowledged alerting law enforcement to a recent Internet posting discussing such attacks.
The FBI and Homeland Security Department distributed an intelligence bulletin Friday to state and local law enforcement nationwide describing the online threat against sporting venues, said Special Agent Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman in Washington.

"We have absolutely no credible intelligence or threats pertaining to this issue," Kolko said.

With conference tournaments taking place this weekend, and the NCAA tournament scheduled to begin next week, the bulletin was sent "out of an abundance of caution," Kolko said.

"We have been in touch with Homeland Security and the FBI about this issue," said NCAA spokesman Erik Christiansen.

"We do not believe there is an imminent threat," he said. "We are in constant communication with the local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security and the FBI. This is not new; we are in regular contact with all these law enforcement agencies at every level."

The online message described a potential attack in some detail, calling it an efficient way to kill thousands of people using suicide bombers armed with explosives hidden beneath their winter clothing, said a federal law enforcement official who read the bulletin.

But the government document also said U.S. intelligence sources could not corroborate the information or say whether the site was linked to al-Qaida.

Christiansen said, "There was no mention of a specific event or organization."


CNN has more details:

According to law enforcement sources, the Web posting advises would-be bombers to hide explosives under winter clothing, and suggests that one suicide bomber detonate a bomb inside a stadium while others detonate bombs where fans are running.
The information also suggests using "blonde or black American suicide bombers," the sources said.

Agents recommended that stadium operators review security procedures and that local law enforcement keep an eye out for suspicious activities.


Yeah, but just don't do anything about suspicious activities--you'll have CAIR suing you faster than you can yell "Islamophobe."
