Colorado Amendment 47

The Unions in Colorado are making a huge push in this state to get their greedy hands on the paychecks of those who do not WISH to join a union and force them to become members by just being in the same work enviorment as they are.

The amendment number 47 that is on the Colorado ballot is a very important one and needs to really be examined. For those who are pro union it is a great deal, for those who are not unionized and do not wish to be it is a nightmare.

Amendment 47 would prohibit an employee to join and pay any dues or fees to a labor union as a condition of employment and create a misdemeanor penalty of between $500.00 and $5000.00 dollars for violations.

Certain wording in this bill would appeal to those with socialist views about fairness. The main argument against amendment 47 is this, "employees can avoid paying their fair share for representation to improve wages, health care benefits, and work place safety."

Federal law requires that all private sector employees are to benefit from collective bargaining, whether they are in a union or not. However the greedy unions think this is unfair. They want nonunion members to pay for their interference in the workplace. Whether the nonunion member wants it or not. A complete fear of non union members and their competence is clear in this.

Unions want to do the thinking and collect a portion of the money from all workers. That the average worker is not smart enough to recognise a unsafe enviorment or realise when they deserve a raise or not. They would rather mandate that a good worker be rewarded along side a poor worker. This is not right. The individual today knows that in an unsafe work place a simple call to OSHA can fix this and that personal recognition is the best way to receive a wage hike.
It goes hand in hand with personal responsibility and a good work ethic.

Pro union people would have Coloradoans believe that this amendment if passed would keep wage levels unjustly low. Keeping the worker in a lower economic class artificially. This is false and a load of bull.

Unions want to dictate to the employer work hours, wages, what they business owner can make and keep. They also want to collect more money in the form of dues. It is in today's world the equivalent of legalised blackmail. Either give us what we want or we go on strike and the business produces nothing.

More and more States are creating and passing laws similar to amendment 47. To protect businesses from this blackmail and to protect the worker from unjust dues of the worker. Lets note that a union dictates when and where you work. If the union says strike, they do not care if you need some overtime to pay for little Billy's braces or to fix the plumbing that broke in your home. You have to strike or be blackballed in the industry. This is fascism and oppression of the worker. It is not a liberation or a benefit for the worker.

A vote yes on amendment 47 is what the worker should vote. A vote for Independence and freedom.

Check out the Right To Work website, and you'll find this:

"Can I be required to be a union member or pay dues to a union?

"Question: Can I be required to be a union member or pay dues to a union?
Answer: You may not be required to be a union member. But, if you do not work in a Right to Work state, you may be required to pay union fees. [...]

"Most employees are not told by their employer and union that full union membership cannot lawfully be required."

The claim in the Colorado Right To Work campaign that a working person can be forced to join a union is belied by the National Right To Work campaign (which is telling the truth). How can you live with your loss of credibility?
