Mexico and Katrina aid
In the after math of Hurricane Katrina, Vincente Fox's first conversation with our government was not need any help but keep giving us aid in your time of need. With a plea for ILLEGAL ALIENS to not be harrassed by immigratrion officials, and a continued abuse of our welfare and social service system was all Fox was concerned by.
His pleas go answered as the current administration, in my opinion makes the biggest blunder of the recovery process. A suspension of the Bacon Davis wage act/law.
The Davis Bacon Act has been suspended temporarily in the affected areas. This means that federal contractors there can lower their wages below the prevailing wages for such work. (Note that those counties where the Act has been suspended include three in south Florida: Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe).
According to the AP, "U.S. officials have suspended for 45 days a requirement that employers check workers' identification." Some of the hurricane victims might have lost their ID but, especially because that quote appears in an article about illegal aliens, the main beneficiaries of this policy would seem to be illegal aliens.
According to Vicente Fox, illegal aliens who seek hurricane assistance from the U.S. will not be "subject to any pressure or persecution". (The link in #2 says the administration has not confirmed that however.) The League of United Latin American Citizens is working with the Mexican government to get the word out about the benefits available to illegal aliens who were impacted. Mexico has also set up mobile consulates in the affected areas.
With close to 400,000 people unemployed due to Katrina, the bold act of suspending identification requirments and lowering of wage restrictions does anyone else but me notice a flow of ILLEGALS now heading to Loiusianna? When the people of the gulf coast need to get on their feet and rebuild we are going to subcontract this out to ILLEGAL who will sponge off the system and keep Americans Unemployed by undercutting any bids on construction.
This is soooo wrong in sooo many ways. Why does this country bend over backwards for Illegals. We sure as hell didnt for the Irish when they came, or the Chinese. So why are we for the Hispanics who come here?
