Obama, Apology, Dresden, WWII?

This has to be a rumor and mud slinging. It can not be possible to think in actuality. For an American President to travel to Germany on D-Day. Then to travel to the one city that the allied forces, predominately American, sought justice on, and give an apologetic speech to the surviving Nazi's who committed genocide against the Hebrew faith is unthinkable.

So what is the history of Dresden. Why would this be the most outlandish thing the anointed one could do to insult the American fighting man and the greatest generation of all time.

Dresden Germany, the recipient of concentrated bombing of civilian and military persons by a combined allied effort. To understand this statement one has got to understand that in a war atrocities happen. It is a fact, much like the one that the sun will come up tomorrow. A fact that does not change. War is a brutal and ugly extension of a last resort in diplomacy. In other words when talk fails, violence prevails.

Many confuse the firebombing of Dresden with the casualty rate of the Lemay bombing of Tokyo. That it was the Tokyo bombings that killed as many as the a-bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. yet many who want to portray America as the constant evil country through out history describe Dresden as having a higher casualty rate, not true.

In four raids, 1,300 heavy bombers dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city of Dresden between 13 February and 15 February 1945. The result of this bombing cannot be ignored. As this strike was and remains a demoralising factor for the German people and a fact of history. It was twelve weeks later that the surrender of the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany came about. Now if anyone thinks that the bombing had nothing to do with this then I say to them they have never been in a fox hole.

Today's historians estimate a death toll of between 24,000 and 40,000, with an independent investigation commissioned by the city itself stated that around 18,000 victims had been identified and that the estimated total number of fatalities was around 25,000. While the death toll from the a-bomb estimated of killed and wounded in Hiroshima (150,000) and Nagasaki (75,000) are over conservative. Numbers which are vastly larger then Dresden. However the true death totals from fall out and radiation poisoning may never be known.

Dresden was and remains a closing point of the war in Europe. For any sitting American President to apologise while neither the Governments of Japan and Germany have apologised for the treatment of American prisoners and Civilians during the war is a slap in the face of any decent person.

So why the question of will Obama apologise for winning the war. over on Atlas Shrugs a very interesting article is posted that covers this topic and makes one wonder deeply as to who is Obama representing. the American people or those who hate the American people.

OBAMA TO APOLOGIZE TO GERMANY FOR WWII?

"You guys burnt the place down, turned it into a single column of flame. More people died there in the firestorm, in that one big flame, than died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined." --Kurt Vonnegut, Jr

Considering Vonnegut was there and you weren't, I think I'll believe his account.

My argument isn't whether the US should apologize, We should not. My argument is with your use of the revisionist history to try to make a point. The numbers that you quoted are from a very liberal panel of German historians, who have their own agenda. Why is it that you normally point out the flaws of revisionist history, i.e. the environmental crap, but in this case you don't even question it.
Trust me when I say that I'm as far to the right on the issues as you are. However, in this case, your use of these numbers has muddied you case.
The Dresden bombings were worse than any experienced by Japan.

The argument on the numbers is the numbers used by the revisionist historians. I use these to point out that even their own "conservative" conclusions point out that many more died in Japan then Germany.

The only reason one can conclude that Dresden was worse is that it happened over a longer period of time. That the bombing lasted hours, not seconds. Where as in Japan it was over and the dead gone , vaporised in an instant. Except for those who died from radiation over the next twenty years.

I lived in Japan for FIVE (5) years. I, in no way find the Dresden bombings to be comparable to the Atomic bomb except to point out the liberal false conclusions.

Back to point. Obama once again is going on a World apology tour for America saving the world.
